Quality of visitors exactly the type of people we want to meet. These are people we would travel to see. It delivered exactly what we want: a mix of buyers we know and many we didn’t, from the car builders and rail authorities. It was a great show. As soon as plans are ready for a return, we will sign up.
Marc J. Gagne, associate vice president, Business Development, TDG Transit Design Group.
In launching our new FireBlock material system for transportation interiors, CCP Composites was looking for a new venue that would provide us with a very focused exposure to the rail, aircraft, and mass-transit marketplace. The 2012 expo in Boston exceeded those expectations as we not only met excellent contacts at our booth, but also from our well-received technical presentation. We look forward to attending the Railway Interiors Expo again!
Rick Pauer, marketing manager, CCP Composites Inc
The show absolutely paid for itself within the first hour of opening. It was a wonderful platform to introduce our new products to existing and new customers.
Ken Rodger, director of Sales & Marketing, Advanced Materials Group, American Acoustical Products
The participants were very focused in their objectives, which makes the overall quality of the expo very good indeed. Many designers and operators took a lot of information about Baultar’s products. We got good traffic from China, Japan, UK and from the usual consultants and car builders.
Denis Vallée, project director, project manager, Baultar
It was the best exhibition we have ever taken part in.
Susan Mingus, US Agent, Beclawat Industrial Division at Prelco
The show exceeded our expectations; all the major industry players visited. We were surprised by the number of visitors to our stand and also by the quality. We hit nine out of 10, on the people we were targeting. This was our first show in the US and was really successful. We look forward to the next edition.
Carlos Duarte, business development director, Amorim Cork Composites
It was a good show. We met mainly North American and some European buyers, all good quality and many new to us.
Michael Schmidt, sales manager Transportation, Nora Systems GmbH
There was a question over whether we should do Europe and in the past we have done [another major European rail event], which covered that area for us. However, the extremely high quality of people we met in Boston stands up for itself and despite reservations on Cologne that is the one factor that presents itself as potentially a great reason to be there.
Craig Berger, founder & CEO, RTR
Good show from standpoint of meeting material suppliers, current customers. Reinforced some current relationships and started new ones. Materials suppliers and way they are working toward what rail operators are looking for a hot topic. It was educational and we were very happy.
Tom Gustafson, sales representative, General Plastics Inc
We were very pleased with the show experience and all the new potential partnerships it helped us achieve both domestically and internationally. A wide range of visitors came by our booth. We also arranged with Amtrak to have 8400 Diner at the local station and the show organizer ran a shuttle bus to and from that site. Visitors were impressed and very happy to have the opportunity to see a piece of in-service rolling stock. We had a very productive Railway Interiors Expo show. We are thinking about Cologne in 2013.
Jonathan Michel, industrial designer, RailPlan International

17 November 2011. Cologne, Germany. Railway Interiors Expo 2011, the world’s only exhibition dedicated to showcasing railcar interior technologies, designs, materials, components and concepts, was hailed a resounding success by all who have attended! The show, which opened on Tuesday 15th November and ran for three days, attracted almost 2,000 attendees from almost 50 countries.

Graham Johnson, Managing Director at UKIP Media & Events, the international exhibition and publishing company that organises Railway Interiors Expo, said, "We're absolutely delighted that this truly global Expo has been such a success already. Everyone here agrees: this is unquestionably the best show and the must-attend event for anyone involved in specifying or designing next-generation railcar interiors.
"Exhibitors and visitors have clearly really enjoyed the show: we've witnessed people looking at purchasing railcar interior technologies, components, materials and concepts throughout the exhibition hall! With over 120 exhibitors, visitors are guaranteed to discover innovation; to find new ways to improve efficiency and passenger comfort as well as increase capacity.
"I've personally met numerous senior figures at Railway Interiors Expo from all of the world’s major railcar manufacturers as well as numerous key personnel from railway operators as far afield as Thailand!"
“For our business, this is the perfect show,” added David Crisp, PCC’s chairman. “It’s the right people, in the right place!”
Johnson wasn’t alone in his enthusiasm: Gareth Lunsdaine, system manager at PCC, the company displaying its latest PRM TSI-compliant toilet module to the great interest of rail operators, said, “That’s one of the reasons we come to the show: obviously we show off the product, but we also get feedback to see if we’ve met everyone’s expectations and requirements.” “For our business, this is the perfect show,” added David Crisp, PCC’s chairman. “It’s the right people, in the right place!”

Also drawing attention was Iseat Flow, a sleek new railway seat prototype from a Portuguese consortium. Its seat includes cork composites and controls that are integrated below the leather of the armrest. “We have a lot of people interested in what we are showing,” said Jose Rui Marcelino, design manager at Alma Design, one of the partners on the project. “Yesterday morning we had no time to listen to the conference because there were so many people here!”
“We saw several items that could be interesting, so we will contact several people we met here to progress what’s possible on our trains”
Alse Dijkstra, of NedTrain’s fleet management department
Visitors, including many key decision makers from OEMs and rail operators, were also delighted with the Expo. “I found several suppliers available and compliant with my requirements,” said Jean-Francois Baudin, TLS platform sourcing director for renovation at Alstom, who was looking for “seats, covers, composite materials, everything that could be involved in refurbishments”. Meanwhile Alse Dijkstra, of NedTrain’s fleet management department, was researching cleaning solutions at the Expo that could be factored into the design of trains. “We saw several items that could be interesting, so we will contact several people we met here to progress what’s possible on our trains,” he said.
There were innovations to see throughout the exhibition, with new technologies including the new wheelchair securement systems from Q’Straint; a truly black grade of silicone rubber from Primasil; a new interior antenna and fibre optic cables from Huber + Suhner; and a four-channel satellite receiver from Molpir, which enables operators to incorporate live TV on in-seat monitors. “Very important people are coming to the show as visitors – perfect visitors for us” said L’ubor Lazar, project manager of Molpir. “It’s a very important show for us, a very good show.”
