Experience Amsterdam

If you are limited for time but still want to experience Amsterdam’s rich culture while attending Railway Interiors Expo 2008, or you simply have some spare time while airside at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, then visit the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Schiphol. This is a joint initiative between Rijksmuseum and the airport whereby the museum has a variety of paintings and artefacts on display in the terminals museum. Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Schiphol: www.rijksmuseum.nl

However, if you do have some spare time in Amsterdam you’ll find that you can experience hundreds of treasures. The following are our top-five visitor attractions in Amsterdam:

Top 5 Experiences

1) Amsterdam Canal Cruise: www.blueboat.nl
A canal cruise is an absolute must. While cruising the canals you can admire the beautiful traditional merchant houses, the numerous bridges, the typical houseboats and, of course, the unique city life of Amsterdam.
2) Rijksmuseum: www.rijksmuseum.nl
The Rijksmuseum is the largest museum in the Netherlands, housing almost one million objects of art and history. It is probably most famous for The Masterpieces exhibition, a collection of 17th-century Dutch masters, including paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Steen.
3) Van Gogh Museum: www.vangoghmuseum.nl
The museum contains the world’s largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh. Housed alongside paintings by Vincent van Gogh are works by other 19th-century artists. Visitors are allowed to get close to the paintings and compare all the artists’ work.
4) Heineken Experience: www.heinekenexperience.com
The Heineken Experience is located at the original Heineken brewery in Amsterdam, which is one of the most impressive industrial heritage sites in the Netherlands. In this unique building, which was a working brewery until 1988, you can experience Heineken’s rich history, tradition and craft of brewing.
5) Amsterdam Walking Tours: www.amsterdamcitytours.com
One of the best ways to see any city is to walk, and Amsterdam is no different. With 1,000+ bridges to cross, and outstanding architecture to photograph, Amsterdam offers hours of sightseeing. You can simply get a map of the city from the tourist office and take a self-guided tour, or take one of the many organised tours on offer.
